Evaluating Alternatives to Destructive Gillnet Fishing

Gillnets are walls of mesh fishing net that hang in the water column and catch fish by their gills. They may entangle other marine life, including marine mammals and sea turtles. This project evaluates whether new technologies for gillnet fishing gears can reduce the incidental catch of marine mammals, sea turtles and seabirds, while maintaining high fish catch.
