Projects: Marine Mammal Bycatch Working Group

The Ocean Modeling Forum convened the members of the MMPA Bycatch Working Group for their second workshop on November 19 – 21, 2018 in Kirkland, Washington. Workshop participants included working group members, invited experts from NOAA, and several observers from government and NGOs. During the workshop, participants developed detailed outlines for the four products they are producing:

Abundance estimation methods best practices
Best practices for marine mammal bycatch estimates
A user-friendly app for exploring bycatch rates
Extended evaluation of the PBR approach
